The three most common types of broadband connections:
1. ADSL – Up to 24 Mbps
ADSL stands for Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line and is the most commonly available type of broadband, delivered through copper wires.
2. Cable – Up tp 152 Mbps
Cable networks use fibre optic and coaxial cables to deliver superfast broadband services.
3. Fibre / FTTP or FTTC – Up to 1 Gbps
Fibre broadband is delivered via clusters of fibre optic cables (each one thinner than a human hair) and speeds are faster than ADSL.
There are two types of superfast fibre broadband – ‘fibre-to-the-cabinet’ (FTTC) – up to 76 Mbps and ‘fibre-to-the-premises’ (FTTP) which is up to 1 Gbps.
